Sexually Transmitted Infections

The Facts

  1. There are 25 sexually transmitted infections.
  2. Anyone who has sex can have a sexually transmitted infection.
  3. STIs are passed from one person to another through sexual contact (vaginal, oral or anal).
  4. 1 in 10 of sexually active teenagers in the UK have Chlamydia.
  5. Not all infections have symtoms, so you could have an infection and not know.  Signs to look for are any unusual discharge, burning feeling when peeing, itching, rashes or soreness in the genital area.
  6. Use a condom every time you have sex otherwise you are putting yourself at risk.
  7. It doesn't matter if you are gay or straight and you don't need to have had lots of different partners to put yourself at risk.
