No Smoking Day

No Smoking Day (NSD) is held on the second Wednesday of March each year (in 2008 it was held on Wednesday 12 March). No Smoking Day is organised by a charity of the same name which is based in London and funded by a coalition of governmental and voluntary sector organisations. 'NSD aims to help people who want to stop smoking by creating a supportive environment for them, and by highlighting the many sources of help available to people who want to quit'.

Global Youth Service Day
The next Global Youth Service Day will be held on 25 to 27 April 2008.  It is the annual celebration of young volunteers when millions of young people in countries everywhere highlight and carry out thousands of community projects. It is organised by Youth Service America and the Global Youth Action Network.

Volunteers Week
This is the national celebration of volunteers and volunteering which takes place on 1 to 7 June each year. Volunteers week helps to raise the profile of England's 22 million volunteers while encouraging others to get involved.

World Environment Day
World Environment Day is held on 5 June every year.  It is the main event through which the United Nations (UN) raises worldwide awareness of the environment.  The day aims to enhance political attention and actions.  The slogan for World Environment Day 2007 was 'Melting Ice - a Hot Topic'.

Sport Relief
Sport Relief takes place in July. Sport Relief, 'harnesses the power of sport to change lives for the better'.  Part of this is Sainbury's Sport Relief Mile, which people take part in to raise money through sponsorship.  Money raised is spent by Comic Relief to help vulnerable people in the UK and the world's poorest countries.

International Youth Day

International Youth Day is a United Nations (UN) intiative which has been running since August 2007.  Every year it has a different focus The focus for 2007's International Youth Day in August was 'Tackling Poverty Together: Young People and the Eradication of Poverty'. This year International Youth Day will be held on Tuesday 12 August
