Safeguarding Information
Children and Young People's Services Safeguarding Information (YC900)
We believe that children and young people deserve the opportunity to achieve their full potential and have the right to avoid having an impoverished childhood, which could lead to disadvantage and social exclusion in adulthood. Policies therefore exist to ensure that you, along with agencies and professionals, can help young people who are suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm, This can range from being concerned about observed behaviour or indicators of possible abuse, to information that has come to you which cannot be ignored.
The main elements of the measures that the service has put in place are as follows:
- All staff must be aware of Safeguarding procedures and know what to do if they have a concern or want to make a referral. Staff who are directly and regularly involved with young people should have a relevant induction course soon after being appointed.
- All staff must have a copy of the 'indictors of possible child abuse' card and have access to a copy of the procedures via the internet. Please follow this link to Social Care Services page.
- A safeguarding co-ordinating group has been established with representatives from each service area. Their responsibility is to implement local service arrangements. Chris Warren, Operations and Development Manager is the representative for the Youth Service..
- Regular training is available to staff as determined by the needs of service areas, including induction and refresher courses.
- Staff are aware that their line managers need to be consulted and will offer support to staff that engage in any aspect of the procedures.
