Fun for Free
No money doesn’t have to mean a boring week stuck in with nothing to do but watch television. Make the most of your free time and have fun without spending any money. Below are some ideas for a weeks worth of fun and trying different things. No money can mean more exercise, socialising with friends and family and even a trip down memory lane…
Monday - Go for a walk. It might sound boring, but that depends on where you go and who you’re with. We are really lucky in Nottinghamshire because we have some beautiful countryside and great parks right on our doorstep and if you walk with a friend it’s a great chance to chat and get some exercise at the same time. Just make sure you tell someone where you are going and when to expect you back.
Tuesday - Have a film night. If you can’t afford the cinema invite a couple of friends round and watch some of your old favourites! Get some treats in, turn down the lights and enjoy being in the comfort of your own home. Still need convincing? The sofa’s a lot more comfortable than cinema seats, you wont have to queue for tickets, you wont get that annoying person kicking the back of your chair and of course it’s FREE!
Wednesday - Get cooking. Treat your family or invite your friends round for a special meal. Cooking is a great skill to have, it’s healthier than takeaways and convenience food and there is nothing better than seeing people enjoying a meal you have made yourself. If you’re not sure what to cook you can find hundreds of recipes on the internet or keep it as cheap as possible and try to make something out of the ingredients you find in the cupboard. Remember, start with something simple and practice makes perfect so why not make it a weekly event…
Thursday - Be creative. Christmas is coming so why not design your own cards on the computer. This means you can personalise each card and people will appreciate the extra thought you have put into it. You could be extra creative and take some festive photos to upload onto your computer and use on your cards.
Friday - Have a games night. Revisit your early childhood and dig out some of your favourite old board games, or if you prefer something more up to date get out your games console. Invite family and friends round and ask them to bring some of their games with them so you have more choice and can have a have a go at something different, but try not to get too competitive!
Saturday – Revamp your room. Bored of your old room and fancy a change? Take inspiration from DIY television programmes and ask your friend to revamp your room while you do theirs. You could swap small items of furniture like lamps, cushions etc or see what things you can find in the loft, garage or sewing box. Give each other a set amount of time and set out some ground rules about what you definitely do not want doing and what you do. Also, please ask permission from your parent/guardian first – they might even want to lend a hand!
Sunday – Relax and read. Sundays should be a day for relaxation and getting ready for the following week at work, school or college. If it’s cold and raining outside there is nothing better than curling up with a good book or, if you prefer, a magazine. You could even start a reading group with your friends where you talk about what you’ve read and recommend and swap books. If you prefer, start a magazine pool where you take it in turns to buy your favourite weekly mag and once you’ve read it pass it on!
