About the Council
Nottinghamshire County Council is the 11th largest local authority in the UK and employs over 28,000 people. We offer professional, high quality and valued services to over 770,000 people in the County and spend over £500 million a year.
Our services have a direct impact on the everyday lives of people and range from adoption through to zebra crossings. View our online A-Z guide to see our extensive list of services.
We work closely with our partners and take great pride in delivering some of the best services in the country - recognised nationally by a wide range of awards.
Our vision is to make people proud of Nottinghamshire and we’re doing that by building a thriving, sustainable County, where everyone feels safe, supported, healthy and able to achieve their potential.
We take our responsibilities to customers, employees, partners, suppliers and local communities seriously. Doing business in a responsible and businesslike way underpins our values.
The County Council is run by 67 elected councillors responsible for making decisions on behalf of the local community. Currently the County Council is made up of 35 Conservative councillors, 13 Labour councillors, 9 Liberal Democrat councillors, 5 Mansfield Independent Forum Group councillors, 2 Independent councillors, 1 UK Independence councillor and 1 Selston Area Independents councillor.
A Cabinet, made up of eight portfolio holders and six deputy portfolio holders from the ruling party, is responsible for the overall business of the council and is subject to scrutiny in all it does. The Cabinet is led by the Leader of the Council, Councillor Mrs Kay Cutts.
We also have a number of regulatory, corporate and ethical committees that take decisions on separate aspects of business.
We operate a Corporate Leadership Team chaired by Chief Executive Mick Burrows. The Team includes four corporate directors who hold responsibilities for key services across adult social care and health, children and young people, communities and corporate services. The Team’s role is to implement the council’s strategic plan, provide leadership and respond to customer expectations.
A record of all decisions made by Cabinet Members, directors and senior officers relating to the implementation of council policies can be viewed on our website.
