Community archaeology

What is community archaeology?

Also known as public archaeology, it is a way for local people to get involved in learning about and conserving their heritage.

Watch the video below to discover more about what community archaeology involves and the types of project we undertake.

Services we offer

We offer a range of services to help you explore your local heritage and to discover, interpret and protect the past.

Get involved

Volunteers with community archaeology have opportunities to get involved in research, practical fieldwork and office based post-excavation.

All volunteers must wear appropriate clothing and footwear relevant to the time of year and weather.

We also offer short work experience placements for secondary school and university students covering research, post-excavation, use of GIS software, preparation of drawings for publication and fieldwork methods.
