Overview

The school holiday patterns for community and voluntary controlled schools have been set until 2022.  The Council is now consulting on future term dates for the academic years 2023/2024, 2024/2025, 2025/2026 and 2026/2027).

All options are based on the following key principles:

  • The pattern must comprise 190 pupil days and 195 teacher days
  • Teaching and learning blocks are as equal in length as possible
  • Split weeks avoided where possible
  • Broadly confirm a fixed spring break as close as possible to Easter
  • Accepts that individual schools are responsible for setting their own teacher training days (Nottinghamshire County Council suggests one of these days be taken the first day back in September).

There are two proposed options:

Option A – this follows the current model, which includes two weeks for the October half term break, a fixed spring break (generally the first two weeks in April) and generally a five week break for the summer holiday. View a calendar showing option A

Why your views matter

Local Authorities (councils) need to determine school term dates for  maintained schools. Schools must be open to pupils for 190 days in an academic year and 195 days for teachers.

Foundation, trust, voluntary aided schools and academies are responsible for setting their own holiday dates and so individual schools, which are not maintained by the local authority may choose to follow a pattern and/or specific dates that do not match those set by Nottinghamshire County Council.

When setting proposed dates for each model, we have, where possible, tried to take account of dates/patterns already set by our local authority neighbours. However, it should be noted that there is no formal mechanism for the regional setting of holiday dates.
