Nottinghamshire County Council - Proud of our past, ambitious for our future

Meet the Lengthsmen

As part of the pilot scheme we have employed several Lengthsmen. Find out who the Lengthsmen are for each area below.

Harworth and Bircotes Town Council

David and Matthew Brierley are a father and son Lengthsman team working across Harworth and Bircotes, Scrooby, Blyth, Hodsock and Babworth councils.

David Brierley said: "We both come from Harworth and it's a source of pride to us that we can make our local area look good.

"We drive through most of the villages every day and it's great that we can say: 'That looks nice, we did that'."

These areas share two part-time Lengthsmen. John Taylor and Ian Wilkinson have been carrying out a variety of tasks across the group of parishes such as extra grass cuts and looking after verges.

John Taylor said: "I'm proud that I can make villages in my area look more respectable and tidy. I'm pleased that the County Council is investing money in local jobs and I’m looking forward to the flexibility of being able to get on with the job in hand myself, without having to ring the County Council."
