Seasonal decorations

Apply to install seasonal decorations

Seasonal decorations (including Christmas and other decorations) are generally considered to be high risk, with overhead decorations and electrical equipment.

You must apply to install seasonal decorations in and above roads or linked to roads (e.g. by an electrical connection) by completing the Seasonal Decoration Application Form:

This application form has been produced in response to the ‘Code of Practice for the Installation, Operation and Removal of Seasonal Decorations’ published by the Institution of Lighting Engineers. Promoters will need to obtain a copy of this Code to use as a reference when completing an application:

  • Copies of the Code can be purchased from the Institution of Lighting Professionals on tel: 01788 576492 or online at www.theilp.org.uk

In addition to the requirements of the Code of Practice for seasonal decorations, contractors/installers of decorations must also carry out their work in accordance with our own 'Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management at Roadworks'.

All applications must be submitted a minimum of 12 weeks prior to the proposed installation date. If an application is approved, a 'Highways Act Section 178 Licence Consent' will be issued by us, to the promoter.
