IS your car ready for winter?
That’s the question from Nottinghamshire County Council which has teamed up with Halfords to offer residents special winter driving clinics to help ensure their vehicle is in tip-top shape to cope with the seasonal weather.
Over the next week Halfords will be carrying out free winter checks on vehicles, while the County Council’s road safety team will be offering advice about tyre safety and showing drivers how to check their tyre tread.
In addition, anyone calling in for one of the special sessions will receive a free tyre “tread buddy” which will help them stay on the right side of the law.
The clinics are being held at selected branches of Halfords next week from 10am to 12noon.
“Statistics show that there is a peak in casualty rates amongst drivers over the three-month period, November, December and January,” says Coun Richard Jackson, chairman of the County Council’s transport and highways committee.
“This can be for all sorts of reasons, but we can all help to improve matters by making sure our vehicles are in peak condition and able to cope.
“I would urge anyone who has the chance to drop in to one of the free-of-charge clinics and take advantage of a tyre safety and winter check.”
