Monica shows the way into work

29 October 2012

A Manager from one of the country's biggest supermarket chains will be in Nottinghamshire next week to give tips to local jobseekers on ways into work.

Monica Dakin is a HR Manager for Sainsburys and will be visiting Arnold Work Club on Tuesday 30 October, 1pm to 3pm at Arnold Library.

She will deliver a Confidence in You workshop which aims to build the confidence of people preparing for work, including practical skills on preparing for an interview and showing how life skills can be transferred work skills.

She will also outline what Sainsbury's look for from job applicants and provide an insight into working in food retail.

All jobseekers from the Arnold area are welcome to attend.

Monica, who is originally from Nottingham, is giving her time free of charge as part of both her and Sainsbury's support for the Get Notts WorkiNG campaign.

She said, "Businesses are looking for people with great behaviours, honesty, integrity,  a good sense of humour and a willingness to do with the best job, with the right attitude.

"The technical aspects of a job can usually be trained and developed so people need to have a confidence in their natural abilities and skills as these will convert into the work place."

Nottinghamshire County Council, which organises weekly work clubs at six libraries throughout the county, hope that the event will encourage more people to attend in the future.

Councillor Keith Girling, Chairman of Economic Development at Nottinghamshire County Council said, "We are extremely grateful to Monica for giving her time and to share her expertise with jobseekers in the Arnold area.

"The event offers a fantastic opportunity for people to get free advice, direct from a major employer, about what they look for from job applicants - advice that may give them the edge in the competitive jobs market."

Arnold Work Club meets every Tuesday (1pm to 3pm) at Arnold Library, Front Street, Arnold.

Work clubs give people the chance to meet others looking for work, build new contacts, share job hunting experiences and get advice on job searches, applications, interview techniques, CVs and even volunteering opportunities.

There are also work clubs held at Hucknall, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Mansfield, Newark and Worksop Libraries.
