Nottinghamshire County Council’s libraries are poised to receive among the first copies of JK Rowling’s new title The Casual Vacancy.
The Harry Potter author’s latest book is being hotly anticipated across the country and beyond, with her first adult novel already topping the charts as booksellers predict big sales.
The local authority has already ordered 18 copies of the book from publishers - with more on order because of demand - and the first batch have today been safely received at its Library Service headquarters in Glaisdale Parkway ready for distribution out to Notts libraries.
But with a waiting list of 85 Nottinghamshire library readers requesting the book, the copies will no sooner land on the library shelves before they go out to the first lucky readers.
Fiona Littlewood, Principal Librarian for Resources, at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “New books are received in our libraries every day as we refresh and update our stock. Books such as the new JK Rowling one which are generating a lot of interest always result in a lot of demand in our libraries and it is fantastic for libraries and book lovers when there is this interest. Another author’s work in demand is popular crime writer Michael Connelly, whose latest publication is available later this year.
“We will be distributing these books quickly to our libraries so that the first readers on the waiting list can begin to read it.”
