Summer school for 13-19 year olds

Young people in Nottinghamshire are being invited to follow in the footsteps of top street dancers like Diversity by taking part in an exciting summer school.

Arts-based, media and performance arts experts County Youth Arts are preparing to host a series of summer schools for 13-19 year olds this summer season as part of their Sunbrella Festival at The Old Library, Leeming Street, in Mansfield.

There are a few places still available on the street dance summer school and limited places available on the Music, Film making and Photography Summer School and also the drama one, so organisers at Nottinghamshire County Council are keen for interested young people to get in touch.

These are the key summer school dates:

6 - 10 August 2012: Music, film making, and Photography Summer School

If you are a musician or enjoy film making or photography this is the summer school for you. Have a go at producing music and sound, film making, photography, and explore graphics and visual effects. You will create your own music and visual clips to mix, mash-up and share.

13 - 17 August 2012: Dance Summer School

Join us for an energetic week of street dance! Develop street dance skills and develop new styles.

20 - 24 August 2012: Drama Summer School

A week of activity developing acting and performance skills for every young person who loves drama.

About Sunbrella

Samantha Holgate-Davey, Project Manager, for County Youth Arts at Nottinghamshire County Council said: "This is the second year that we have run Sunbrella - it is particularly appropriate with the good and bad weather we have had this summer so far!

"The underlying message of Sunbrella is that rain or shine, the activities are indoors so will take place whatever the weather.

"Young people interested in taking part in the summer schools simply need to demonstrate an interest in the arts. We are looking forward to some great workshops in August."

Coun Lynn Sykes, Chairman of the Early Years and Young People's Sub-Committee, at Nottinghamshire County Council said: "Sunbrella was a great success last summer and provides a wonderful platform for local young people to showcase their performance talent and creativity. It is the latest exciting festival taking place in Nottinghamshire in a packed calendar of youth activities this year."

The summer sessions also aim to provide young people a taster of some longer projects which will run at The Old Library as part of the Old Library's Autumn/Winter arts programme.

There will also be a showcase of talent with performances from young people on the various projects at The Palace Theatre in Mansfield during the October and February half terms.
