Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations

13 March 2012

Rufford's Right Royal Extravaganza

Rufford Gallery is celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee this May and June with a Right Royal Extravaganza. The gallery will be adorned with bunting, photographs and memorabilia from the Queen's Coronation, Silver and Golden Jubilees and commemorative plates and mugs painted by visitors preceding the show. Crowns, mugs, plates and thrones designed by artists and makers on a Diamond Jubilee theme will also feature.

Appeal for royal memorabilia

As part of the Right Royal Extravaganza, we've launched an appeal for people with royal memorabilia to get in touch to take part in an exciting exhibition.

If you have a bounty of bejewelled biscuit tins or a shelf full of mugs and plates celebrating the coronation, Silver or Golden Jubilee, your items could sit pride of place in the exhibition being organised by Rufford Craft Centre, at Rufford Abbey Country Park.

A selection of memorabilia will be shown as part of Rufford's Right Royal Extravaganza, from Tuesday 15 May to Sunday 10 June. The show previews on Sunday 13 May, 2-4pm when visitors will be encouraged to attend adorned in red, white and blue and crowns of their own creation.

Exhibition organisers are keen to hear from the public as soon as possible, and by 23 March, so they can begin arrangements to get the memorabilia on display. The focus is on the Queen so event organisers are not looking for memorabilia related to Prince Charles or the late Lady Diana.

If you'd like your memorabilia to form part of the exhibition please send us your name, address, daytime telephone number, email address (if you have one) and a brief description of your memorabilia by 23 March to:

We're also on the look out for photographs celebrating past royal events such as street parties and other celebrations. These will also feature in the Right Royal Extravaganza exhibition at Rufford Craft Centre.

If you have any photos you'd like to share, bring them along to one of the libraries listed below where our expert staff will scan them (this process does not damage the original):

  • Mansfield Library: Wednesday 14 March 10.00am-1.00pm
  • Southwell Library (re-arranged venue from Newark Library): Tuesday 20 March 10.00am-1.00pm
  • Worksop Library: Wednesday 28 March 1.00pm-4.00pm.

Street parties

If you're planning a street party to celebrate the Jubilee, please let us know as soon as possible, so we can put plans in place to close the road to traffic. We can also provide you with the traffic signs that you'll need and collect them again after the event.
