Nottinghamshire County Council - Proud of our past, ambitious for our future

The Budget Challenge 2014/15

Budget approved

County Councillors approved the 2014/15 budget at the Full Council meeting on 27 February.

Listening to you

Thank you to everyone who gave us their views as part of the Budget Challenge 2014/15. This was one of the biggest consultations ever undertaken by the County Council, with 38,412 responses received across the whole campaign.

County Councillors listened to your feedback during the Nottinghamshire Budget Challenge consultation. A number of changes to the original budget proposals were published in the budget report to reflect their concern to put people first and to offer fairness in tough times. The changes included:

Details of updated proposals are available as part of the papers for the Full Council meeting on 27 February.

Making tough decisions together

Nottinghamshire County Council needs to find savings over the next three years of £154m - equivalent to nearly £200 for each and every resident.

The Council has no choice but to make these cuts as a result of the Government reducing the amount of income that we have to fund a rising demand for adult and children's social services.

Fair Deal for Nottinghamshire

Thank you to the 3,222 people who supported the Fair Deal petition.

Step 1 - Budget position

2 September 2013 to 17 January 2014

This was the chance to tell us if you understand the challenge and what services you would reduce to balance the books. Given the severity of the budget situation, what would you be prepared to do from the options presented?

Step 2 - Strategic Plan

18 September 2013 to 25 October 2013

This was an opportunity for people to share their views on the draft Strategic Plan [PDF] and tell us if we've got it right or what people think we should focus on. The Strategic Plan sets out the Council's priorities for the next four years and how we plan to deliver them.

Step 3 - Budget proposals

13 November 2013 to 17 January 2014

This was the time to have your say on how individual services could be affected and to what degree. All responses were considered before decisions were made by the Council on 27 February 2014.
