Killed in the attack on Gommecourt on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, and buried Foncquevillers Military Cemetery (grave ref I.L.37). He shares a grave with Private PRS Coppock, Lincolnshire Regiment (1 July 1916) and a soldier believed to be Private WH Cope, RAMC (1 July 1916). Part of the battalion's Lewis gun detachment.
