At the time of the 1911 Census he lived at 21 Haywood Street, Sneinton Road, with his mother, Ellen Harriet (39), a widow, and his brothers James (19) and Arthur Harold (7) and sister, Ethel (10). His parents had been married for 20 years and had had 7 children of whom 3 had died. Cornelius was born in 1894.
Member 2nd Nottingham Company Boys' Brigade (Dakeyne Street Lads' Club). In the 1911 Census he is described as a 'traveller, drug store'.
