Royal Engineers
Corporal George William Lane, enlisted in Grantham, Lincolnshire, he initially served with service number 11859 in the Lincolnshire Regiment, later transferring to 4th Battalion Special Brigade, Royal Engineers. He died as a result of gas poisoning at No. 20 Casualty Clearing Station on 29th June 1916. He is buried in Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty.Grave Reference: 1 E 13
In memoriam published on 28th June 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post : - “LANE. – In proud and loving memory of our dear son and brother, Corpl. G. W. Lane, Special Brigade, R.E., who died of gas poisoning June 29th, 1916. – From mother, father, and sister, Bulwell Hall Park, Nottingham. “LANE. – In memory of Corpl. G. W.
