He was the son of Edwin John and Jane Archer Brierley of 23, Highbury Avenue Bulwell, Nottingham and the brother of Wallace Edwin (1881-1963), Gertrude, Frank Archer, George and Dorothy Agnes Brierley. George who also served during the 'Great War ' was also killed in action 20/9/1917. (Jane Archer is buried with her eldest son, Wallace Edwin, in Redhill Cemetery, Arnold, Nottingham.)
