William was born in West Stockwith in 1886 the son of John and Annie Eliza Hackett (nee Kay) of Station Street Misterton his father was a canal boatman. he had 3 siblings, Eliza born 1883, Walter born 1891 and Ernest born 1893. He was married to his wife Kate.
He was a canal boatman like his father before him
