Ralph was born in 1894 the son of George Aaron and Ellen Maudsley Cooper (née Porter). His father was in the brick and tile manufacturing business. He had four younger siblings, Maudsley born 1895, John born 1897, George born 1904 and Herbert born 1910.
He was employed in the management of a local brickyard
