He was the son of Cornelius and Alice Laura Hale and the brother of Richard, Florence, Fanny Emma G, Ernest Walker, Frederick Herbert, George Arthur and Ivy May Hale. In 1901 they lived on Nottingham Road Gotham Nottinghamshire, in 1911 at 441 Berridge Road and later 77 Birkin Avenue (both Hyson Green Nottingham).
In 1911 he was a marine store dealer.
