He was the son of Henry and Harriett Jackson and the brother of Edith May, Charlotte and Vinnie Marshall Jackson. In 1911 they lived at 216 Highbury Road Bulwell Nottingham.
He gained a B.Sc from University College Nottingham. In 1911 he was a student teacher.
