2/7th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Cpl. Hamilton enlisted in 1914 and following training he was drafted to France, arriving on 28/06/1915. He survived the fighting until the first day of the great German offensive Operation Michael. The battalion stood its ground as the German infantry advanced but they were eventually able to break through on the flanks. By noon only 150 men remained fighting in a sunken road. It was the last that was heard of the battalion. Cpl. Hamilton was killed in action but his body was never recovered. However, his name was commemorated on the Arras memorial.
