He was the son of George and Marie Diggle and the brother of John, Albert and Louis Diggle. In 1911 they lived at 4 Randal Street Hyson Green Nottingham.
He was an errand boy in 1911.

1/8th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Alfred Diggle, served with the 8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, was killed in action on 17th October 1918. The former Robin Hood Rifleman is buried in Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension.
In memoriam published 17th October 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “DIGGLE. – In loving memory of Pte. Alfred Diggle, 4 Randal-street, killed in action October 17th, 1918.
