Herbert Ernest was born in 1895 in St Anns, he was the son of Herbert a lift attendant and Annie Wooll née Wilson . His father Ernest Herbert known as Herbert was born in 1864 in Nottingham his mother Annie Wilson was born in 1859 in Nottingham. They were married in 1891 in Nottingham and went on to have 4 children 1 of which died in infancy. The surviving children were Charles b1893, Herbert b1895 and Annie b1900, all the children were born in Nottingham. In 1911 census the family were living at 68 Abbotsford Street St Ann's Nottingham and were shown as Herbert 47 yrs head of the family a lift attendant in a lace manufactures , he is living with his wife Annie 52 yrs and their 3 children Charles 18 yrs a warehouse man, Herbert 16 yrs a clerk and Annie 11 yrs a scholar. .
In 1911 he was a clerk.

Quatermaster Sergeant
King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Quarter Master Sergeant Herbert Wooll enlisted in Nottingham he served with the 9th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He landed in France on 11th September 1915 and served with his battalion throughout the war. He was with the depot battalion when he died in the Albert Hall , military hospital in Nottingham on 6th February 1919. He was buried at the Rock Cemetery, Nottingham on 12th February 1919
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 7th February 1919 reads :- “WOOLL. – On February 6th, at Albert Hall Military Hospital, Regt.-Q.M.S. Herbert Wooll, 9th K.O.Y.L.I., aged 24, after four years in France, the beloved son of Herbert and Annie Wooll, 68 Abbotsford-street. Loved by all. – From father, mother, sisters, and brothers.
