She became a widow in 1901. Brothers: Ernest, born in 1872 at Polesworth, and working as a leather splitter before becoming a coal miner, Horace S., born in 1877 at Bulwell, Nottingham and Cephus F., born in 1888 in Nottingham. Sisters: Florence, born in 1872 at Polesworth and working as a cigar maker, Victoria E., born in 1875 at Polesworth and also working as a cigar maker and Winnie, born in 1882 in Nottingham.The family lived at 20 Briar Street, Meadows, Nottingham. Enoch Shakespeare married Susannah M. Shakespeare. She was born in 1875 at Doncaster. They had three children, Horace O., born in 1902 in Nottingham, Cecil A., born in 1904 in Bulwell and Enoch, born in 1908 in Bulwell. They lived at 12 Ockerby Street, Bulwell, Nottingham.

Shakespeare volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France, arriving on 18/12/1915. The battalion was serving in the Ypres Salient when Shakespeare was killed in action during a 'quiet' spell on 23/01/1917.
His body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial Ypres Panel Reference: 47.
