He was a lamp lighter in 1911, and had worked for the Corporation lighting department for 25 years before enlisting.

Pte. Hufton enlisted in Nottingham and was drafted to Salonica, where he served with the Spares Department of the Army Service Corps. Unfortunately he contracted dysentry, which was endemic in Salonica, and died on 04/07/1918. He was buried at Lembet Road Military Cemetery (1439)
