He enlisted as a Territorial 1/3/1909 and agreed to serve abroad 4/9/1914. On enlistment he stood 5'9" tall and weighed 143 lbs. He served at home from 5/8/1914 until 27/2/1915 and then in France & Flanders until his death. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star.
Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery Possessions returned to the family included a holdall, letters and postcards, handkerchiefs, gloves, 2 tin boxes, shaving soap, hairbrush, fork and spoon, 2 purses, disc, photos, clasp knife, razor, lighter, New Testament, cap badge and stamps. Kate Harris was awarded a pension of 19/6d per week 29/11/1915.
