He was the son of William and Ellen Jones and the brother of Sidney Jones. In 1911 they lived at 68 Westwood Road and later 55 Lord Nelson Street (both Sneinton Nottingham).
He was a clerk in 1911.

Private Harry Edgar Jones served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters, he was killed in action on 13th October 1915, he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial
Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 9 November 1915: 'Jones. Killed in action October 13th, Private Harry E Jones, Sherwood Foresters, second son of the late W Jones .. aged 18. Mother, brothers and Mary.'
