Father: George Else, born in 1870 in Nottingham working first as a leather dealer and then as a licence victualer. Mother: Ada Else, born in 1867 in Nottingham. Brothers: Clement W., born in 1887 in Nottingham and John Henry, born in 1906 in Nottingham. Sisters: Ethel May, born in 1893 in Nottingham and working as a lace finisher and Florence Gertrude, born in 1897 in Sandiacre, Derbyshire and working as a milliner's assistant. The family lived at 274 Alfred Street Central (C. 1901) before moving to the "Fox Inn," Sneinton, Nottingham.
Member of 2nd Nottingham Company Boys' Brigade (Dakeyne Street Lads' Club). George William Else worked as a solicitor's clerk.

Sgt. Else was called up and following training he was drafted to France. He was involved in fighting in the Third Battle of Ypres and was killed in action on 26/09/1917. He was buried in New Irish Farm Cemetery (grave ref 15.C.1)
