Edward Fines was killed on the Somme on 19/9/1916. "The rain continued the following day and adding to the battalion's discomfort, the enemy put down a heavy barrage of whizz-bangs (small calibre German shell, also called pipsqueaks) and high explosive shells on Constance trench. Two other ranks would be killed and four wounded in this barrage" Edward was one of the two killed and is buried in Ovillers Military Cemetery, grave I.C.17. John Morse
