Private Arthur Jacques enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Stapleford. He initially served with the service number 1766 in the 2/1st battalion South Notts Hussars before transferring to the Machine Guns Corps (cavalry). He was killed in action at Dahriah on 1st November 1917, his name is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Basra, Iraq.
His brother Private James Jacques also served during the Great War in the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters , he died of wounds on 12th October 1915 and is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
