William Beaumont was born in Norton Cuckney, Notts in 1893. His father, George Beaumont, was a lifetime black-smith rising to a foreman blacksmith in 1911. He had married William’s mother, Eliza in 1882. They lived in Norton during their married lives and produced six children, Maud born 1883, John 1884 Gladys 1886, Wilfred 1890, William 1893 and Sidney in 1897. By 1911, William Beaumont had left the family home at Milnthorpe Lodge, Norton Cuckney and was working as a domestic motor driver on the Welbeck estate where he was housed with eight other drivers.

12th Bn Durham Light Infantry
William was 21 years of age when he was attested on the 2nd September 1914 joining the Durham Light Infantry. Other details of his service are not to hand but he was in Belgium in 1917 when he was killed in action and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
