Father: John Herbert Buckley, born 1867 Stockport, Manchester and worked as a lace pattern corrector. Mother: Eliza Buckley, born 1874 at Nottingham and working as a lace jennier. he had one brother, John Herbert, born 1891 and four sisters; Lillian, born1889, Dorothy Helen, born 1895, Alice Clara, born 1897 and May, born 1900. All the children were born in Nottingham. The family lived at 29 Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham before moving to 32 Havelock Street, St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham. .
Lawrence Buckley worked as a postman.

Pte. Buckley volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France on 30/07/1915. He was killed in action during trench fighting around the village of Berles-au-Bois, and was buried in the churchyard extension.
In memoriam published 29th June 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BUCKLEY. – In ever loving memory of our darling son, Rfn. Lawrence Buckley, K.R.R., who fell in action June 29th, 1916, late of 336a, Alfreton-road. We miss him most who loved him best. – From his loving mam and dad. “BUCKLEY. – In affectionate remembrance of our dear nephew Lawrence (Lol), who fell in action June 29th, 1916. Memory keeps our loved ones near us. Sadly missed. – Bud, Alice, Ernest, and Lily. “BUCKLEY. – In loving memory of our dear brother, Rfn. Lawrence (Loll) Buckley, K.R.R., killed in action June 29th, 1916.
