Worksop, Notts
William Dennett married Eliza Hennel in Worksop in 1888. They had 2 children, first, a girl Ada, born Worksop 1889 and second, a boy, Arthur, born Worksop 1894. At the start of their married years, they lived with William’s widowed mother at 5 Netherton Place, Worksop. Between the birth of Arthur and 1901, the family moved to nearby Shireoaks where William was working as a miner in the local pit. At some stage later, the family moved back to Worksop, residing at 33 Clinton Street. Ada had married William Pearce in 1910 and still living in her parent’s home with her new husband and child. Arthur, now 17, was working as a pony driver in the pit.

Pte Arthur Dennett Worksop Guardian 27 September 1918 We also report with sincere regret the death of Pte Arthur Dennett, Essex Regiment, only son of Mr and Mrs William Dennett, 33 Clinton Street, Worksop, who has succumbed to wounds in France. On Tuesday night, Pte Dennett’s parents received a letter from a hospital sister, stating that the brave soldier had been bought in on September 20th, seriously wounded in the abdomen. The following day, Mr and Mrs Dennett, were the recipients of two letters, one from the Matron of the hospital, and the other from the Chaplain informing that their son passed peacefully away on Saturday Sept 21st. Pte Dennett, who was a steady and well conducted young man, was, prior to joining up in April this year, employed at Manton Colliery, and he was sent to France five weeks ago. Great sympathy will be expressed with Mr and Mrs Dennett and family in the loss of a gallant son and brother. Pte Dennett’s brother-in-law, Pte William Pearce, is serving in the forces in Wales.
