Pte Thomas A Vickers Worksop Guardian 22 November 1918 The funeral took place at Worksop on Friday with full military honours of Pte Thomas Arthur Vickers, 5th Sherwood Foresters, who died at Louth from pneumonia, after a long period of service in France. Pte Vickers, who was 24 years of age, was a son of Pte H G Vickers and Mrs Vickers, Trent Street, and married a daughter of Mr William Morris, 68 John Street, with whom and his parents, great sympathy is expressed. He was in the Worksop Territorials when war broke out, and after he had been in France some time, he was wounded and invalided home. He was recalled to the colours in April last, passing A1, but again returned to England having been gassed, the effects of which set up pneumonia. His wife was with him when he died. They had only been married eight months. The first part of the service was at St Anne’s Church, the Rev. H Gray officiating, both here and at the graveside. The coffin was covered with a Union Jack and a firing party and buglers were in attendance from Clipstone. In a letter to the widow, the deceased’s commanding officer says:- “It is particularly sad that your husband’s career as a soldier should have been terminated in this way. He had served overseas and been wounded twice, doing his part in bringing about the victory. His death is regretted by all his comrades.
