Walter Cox was born in Radford Notts in 1876. He was the eldest (and only) son of Walter and Ellen Mansell. He had 6 sisters. His father was a long term employee on the railways. His mother died in 1910. He was appointed as a Postman to Worksop in March 1914 and again in Oct 1915.

Enlisted at Derby. Details are not to hand as to the circumstances of his death, but his Medal Index Card indicates that he fought outside the UK. He probably was wounded or contracted a fatal disease and died as a result on home territory and was buried in Nottingham Church Cemetery.
