He was the son of John and Matilda Wilkinson of 'Cloverlands' Lindley's Lane East Kirby Nottinghamshire. They formerly lived at Nottingham Road Hill Top Eastwood Nottinghamshire.
He was employed as a pit office clerk by Barber Walker.

He enlisted at Nottingham in January 1915 serving in France for three years firstly with the Royal Army Service Corps (S/4/060537) and later with 1/8th Bn London Regiment. He was killed attacking a German trench near Clery to the right of Albert Having killed a machine gunner, he was shot through the head and killed instantly. (Eastwood & Kimberley Advertiser 20/12/1918)
