Kimberley Nottinghamshire
He was the husband of Lizzie Birkin and the father of five children.
He was a former miner, trade unionist and local councillor. He retired for the pit in 1908 but returned upon war's outbreak. He was 'combed out' during the autumn of 1917 and arrived in France in the Spring of 1918. (Eastwood & Kimberley Advertiser 20/7/1918)
