Charles Stuart Bott was the second child of William Ernest Bott and Ellen Booth who had married in 1882 at Derby. Charles had been born at Ormaston Derbyshire and had an older brother William Ernest junior. Prior to William and Ellen’s marriage, William worked as a boot maker but later on took up Holy Orders. The family moved from Derby around 1896 to Lincolnshire where three more children were born, Dorothy in 1898, Francis George in 1900 and Edward Hugh in 1909. By 1911 the family were living at 253 Hainton Ave, Grimsby. With the exception of Francis and Charles who may have been elsewhere being educated.
He attended St Cutherberts College Worksop between 1908 and 1912.

7th Bn Lincolnshire Regiment
It was announced in the London Gazette that Charles had been made a Second lieutenant in December 1914 and served with the 10th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1916 and served in France and Flanders from August 1915. On 17th April 1917 he was killed in action during the Battle of Arras .
