Edgar Laurence Allen was born the son of Job and Mary Ann Allen in 1881 at Worksop. His father was a brewers clerk for many years and Edgar was an apprentice painter prior to the war. They lived in 6 Market Street, Worksop in 1901 and later in 60 Newcastle Avenue
