A delightful walk through the Keyworth Wolds.

Directions

  1. From Keyworth village centre, follow Main Street past the church. Leave the village following the signpost to Wysall and Wymeswold. At the first right hand bend continue straight on down Lings Lane for about 400 metres and turn left onto Wolds Lane.

  2. Walking along Wolds Lane you will see a large pond in a field to the north. Shortly after passing this go through a metal gate on your right and follow the hedge on your left.

Continue straight on to approach North Lodge Farm. Follow the footpath signs around the nearside of the two barns. Join a track just beyond the second barn and turn left into the neighbouring field. Follow the left hedge and continue straight on until you reach a stile to the right of a pair of metal fieldgates on your left.

  3. Over the stile turn right and walk straight across an open field to a stile to the right of two more fieldgates. Over this you join a headland path (aim to the left of the tree straight ahead). Join the path, which follows the right hand side of a wood. Where you see a stile and fieldgate on your left cross onto a track and turn right.

  4. A short distance along this track you may turn left to visit Widmerpool Church. Continue down the track below the church. Bear right off the main track to cross a bridge over Fairham Brook. Follow the path through a handgate to emerge on Church Lane.

Turn right and follow the lane, bearing left at the grass triangle. Turn left and then left again at the next junction. Continue straight on (passing the road to Melton and Kinoulton on your right). As you pass the signboard for 'Widmerpool', the path leaves the road on the right, over a ditchboard.

  5. Over this, turn left and follow the hedge, parallel with the road. At the corner, turn right with Stonepits Plantation on your left. At the corner, cross the ditchboard and turn left. Follow the field edge until the plantation ends, then continue straight on to the bottom of the field beyond a pylon.

  6. Turn right, keeping to the edge of the same field with Roehoe Brook on your left. Ignore any ditchboards giving access to the wood. Continue to pass into the next field near another pylon. After about 350 yards cross a bridge over the brook and continue straight ahead (at right angles to the previous direction of travel). Follow the field edge with the wood to your right. Go through a large gap in the next hedge boundary and continue as before to the field corner.

  7. Bear left slightly, through a gate and turn immediately right to walk between two gardens and then two buildings. Step over a low wall and walk along the drive to Stanton Lodge. In the fence on the right there is a gate leading out of the property. Bear left, following the road out of the complex. At the bend in the road turn left to the wide gap in the hedge. Head slightly to the right aiming for the largest tree to the right of the telegraph wires.

  8. Proceed through the next few fields, crossing stiles and following waymarkers continuing roughly in the same direction. Upon reaching a grit-surfaced corral, enter this then turn left to climb a stile. Follow the left hedge to another stile. Continue straight on with a hedge now on your right to reach a stile onto the roadside verge. Turn right at the road and follow it straight on into Keyworth Village returning to the start of the walk.
