Bestwood Country Park

The 650 acres of Bestwood have a richly varied landscape, wildlife and industrial heritage. This serene oasis, now popular with walkers, cyclists and bird-watchers, was once home to one of Britain’s busiest coal mines. 

  • free admission and car parking
  • car parks open 10am - 5pm
  • dogs welcome on a lead
  • park open every day, except Christmas day
  • Winding Engine House open Saturday, 10am - 12 noon

Getting here

Bestwood is approximately four miles north of Nottingham, between Arnold and Bestwood Village.

Train: the nearest stations are Bulwell (2 miles) and Hucknall (3 miles)

Bus: Trent-Barton 141, Nottingham – Mansfield and Doyles Coaches 228, Bulwell – Hucknall.

Cycle: the park is on route 6 of the National Cycle Network

Car: for sat-nav use postcode NG6 8ZA

The Dynamo House Café

Open: Saturday, 10am – 1pm and on Bank Holidays, serving hot drinks and home-made cakes. Run by volunteers from the Friends of Bestwood Country Park and the Bestwood Village WI and all profits benefit the park

Picnic tables throughout park

Accessible toilet with baby-changing facilities in the Dynamo House and other toilets throughout the park.

Car parking

  • You can park at Bestwood Lodge Hotel or, at the opposite end of the park, in Bestwood Village
  • Both car parks are open from 10am - 5pm
  • Disabled parking is located next to Alexandra Lodge (Bestwood Village) and can be booked in advance, please contact: 0115 927 3674.

Bestwood is a hilly site with steep gradients. Some paths are wheelchair accessible and the area near the Winding Engine House is fairly flat.

The Dynamo House and Winding Engine House are fully accessible and have an audio loop.

Accessible toilet with baby-changing facilities in the Dynamo House and other toilets throughout the park.
