BME Strategy
The Nottinghamshire Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership has launched a BME strategy called Challenging Racism, Making a Difference: A strategy to improve outcomes for black and minority ethnic children, young people and families in Nottinghamshire.
The strategy introduces a clear set of guidelines for the Partnership to follow, to ensure that employees in the partner agencies understand the needs of young people and families from minority groups, and how to deal with racism.
Among the actions that the new strategy will encourage is the training and development of staff, introducing new policies and procedures based on research and demographics, and greater participation and engagement with minority groups.
The strategy will also require organisations to collate statistics of ethnicity and reports of racism, to identify key areas in need of improvement and to determine ways in which the Partnership can best meet the needs of minority groups.
As part of the strategy, a questionnaire is to be sent out to see how well organisations are structured to prevent, deal with complaints of, and challenge, racism.
The strategy has been jointly produced by partnership organisations, young people and community groups, and has been agreed by the Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership. The production of the strategy is one of the requirements of the Children Act 2004.
