Plans to award more than £2m to 201 voluntary organisations, community groups, parish councils and charities across the county as part of Nottinghamshire County Council’s new Local Improvement Scheme will be considered by County Councillors at next week’s Communities and Place committee meeting (17/5/18).

Many organisations will receive funding for up to three years, subject to satisfactory monitoring by the County Council.

The County Council’s Local Improvement Scheme provides discretionary funding for capital and revenue investment to support voluntary organisations across the county. Nottinghamshire County Council continues to provide this discretionary funding despite the financial challenges facing the organisation.

In total the County Council received 408 applications for funding. Applications were checked very carefully and included a review by independent assessors.

Councillor Gordon Wheeler, Vice-Chairman of the Communities and Place Committee, at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We are delighted at the number of applications we have received since launching the Local Improvement Scheme. The scale of the interest, with more than 400 applications, highlights the great work being undertaken by charities and voluntary organisations across our county.

“We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time and trouble to submit proposals as the standard of entry is extremely high.”

The Local Improvement Scheme has a number of aims and objectives which include:

  • Supporting local communities to make Nottinghamshire a great place to live, work, visit and relax
  • Helping people to help themselves through encouraging volunteering and community involvement
  • Encourage the protection and development of the local environment and heritage
  •  Support Members in their roles as community leaders to respond to local ideas that bring community and economic benefit to the county.

All applicants will receive written confirmation from the Communities team following the outcome of the committee meeting.

Applications for the Talented Athletes and the new capital funding scheme will be available soon.
