Celebration of farming among Chairman’s weekly engagements
Nottinghamshire County Council Chairman Councillor John Handley will attend the Newark Annual Plough Sunday Service this weekend.
The annual event this Sunday will feature guests from the National Farmers’ Union and aims to give farming and local farmers good fortune for the coming year.
As part of an annual tradition, young farmers carry a milk churn and a plough from Newark Town Hall to St Mary Magdalene parish church in the town centre. There is then a church service where both the milk churn and plough are blessed at the altar. Following the service, there is a procession from the church to Newark Town Hall.
Elsewhere on Tuesday (tomorrow) , the Chairman will meet Nottinghamshire County Council staff at Sherwood Energy Village, and attend a citizenship event at Bridgford Hall on Wednesday. On Friday he will attend an annual meeting of the Derby, Notts and South Lincolnshire section of the Showmen’s Guild at Nottingham Belfry Hotel.
