Most empty fridges and freezers (including non-commercial glass fronted fridges) are accepted at the Household Waste Recycling Centres but commercial glass fronted fridges and all glass topped fridges are not accepted.
Please note: a permit system is in operation for household waste taken to HWRCs in a van, pick-up, car-towed trailer or sign written vehicle. However, if you are hiring a van to transport your own household waste, temporary access can be granted by calling the Customer Service Centre at least 48 hours before your planned visit.
You could also use a retailer take back scheme if you are purchasing a new fridge/freezer or contact your district council who can offer a chargeable bulky waste collection.
If your fridge or freezer is still in good working order, you could donate it to a furniture reuse group.
