The legal bits

Once you've set the date, you'll need to get the legal side of things sorted out: you need to give notice of your intention to marry.

This involves you going to your local register officer, by appointment, taking with you some documents to prove your identity and to declare that you are legally free to marry.

The same applies to couples who will be celebrating a civil partnership.
