Celebration of vows

Whether you are just approaching the first anniversary of your wedding or civil partnership or celebrating your golden anniversary, we are pleased to offer couples a unique and personal ceremony to celebrate their vows to each other.

A celebration of vows ceremony provides the opportunity for couples who have already contracted a marriage or civil partnership to celebrate their vows in a unique and personal way. There are many reasons to consider holding such a ceremony:

  • a favourite time to celebrate vows is at the time of a special anniversary. Popular dates include Silver after 25 years, Ruby after 40 years and Golden after 50 years, but it can be any anniversary that is meaningful to you

  • some couples who have married or registered a civil partnership abroad decide to hold a celebration of vows ceremony in this country to share their celebrations with family and friends

  • sometimes, after a difficult period in a relationship, couples choose to celebrate their renewed commitment to each other.

Venues

Celebration of vows ceremonies can be held at any main register office in Nottinghamshire and at any venue approved by Nottinghamshire County Council for ceremonies.

Arranging a ceremony

Any couple who are in a marriage or civil partnership can arrange a celebration of vows ceremony. If you wish to hold your ceremony in Nottinghamshire, you don't have to be a resident here.

Each ceremony is unique to you: we will work closely with you in order to create a meaningful ceremony that is special for you and your family.

A ceremony is composed of a number of elements which allow you to create something personal and very special:

  • introduction and welcome

  • mention of any children

  • readings of poetry or similar

  • choice of music

  • renewal of vows/making of promises

  • exchange of new rings or re-dedication of original rings

  • presentation of certificate

  • closing words.

You do not have to include all of these elements in your ceremony, this is merely a suggested structure. You may also include a short religious reading if you wish.

For costs of ceremonies please see our fees page.

For more information or to make a ceremony booking, please contact the register office of your choice.
